In Kenya, the jury is still out on whether or not having sex during a woman’s period is good, the same, or a no-no.
We talked to Kenyans to find out their thoughts and experiences.
Periods are a turn-off for me. The whole blood situation and having to be careful not to stain anything. I’d just rather not do it. During sex, I want to be wild, not careful. And that just doesn’t seem to happen when a woman is on her period.
If she isn’t cramping and asking for a massage instead of focusing on the deed, she’s getting grumpy – and that kills the mood.
Tony, 24
There was a time my man came over. It was that day when your period was kind of over, but, at this point, there may or may not be some residue left. Anyway, I hoped for the best as he went down on me – who am I to say no to cunnilingus! Unfortunately, there was still some residue and my man ended up eating it and he was disgusted.
As was I. Now I don’t take chances. No licking until my period is completely over.
Annah, 23
My new crush invited me for a weekend away and, although I knew my period was around the corner, I thought it was coming towards the end of the weekend rather than the beginning.
It was the first time we were sharing a room.
As we got into it that night, everything was cool until we woke up the following day and the sheets were stained.
I was mortified and we didn’t speak the whole time as we came back. He kept saying it was not a big deal, but I was too embarrassed. I stopped picking his calls and that was how a potentially good relationship went down the drain.
Rose, 30
I don’t see the big deal about having sex during my girlfriend’s period. We just put an extra sheet on the bed and make love. When we’re done, she’ll remove it, puts in her tampon, and we will go to sleep. No big deal.
I don’t see why a natural process should interrupt our urge to have sex.
