Does pubic hair have any benefits?
What is the purpose of pubic hair? Before we get deeper into this conversation, let’s agree that whether a person prefers to remove all, none, or some of the pubic hair is totally up to them.
Yet, we must admit that the media, especially porn, peer pressure, and sexual partners can often influence this preference.
For some time now, a shaved pubic area has gained traction as many people prefer to shave rather than leave the hair to grow naturally. Some people prefer to totally remove their pubic hair (temporarily of course as it grows back). Yet, have you ever asked yourself whether pubic hair serves any purpose?
Let’s start by calling out two lies:
- Pubic hair is not unhygienic. Yes, it traps sweat and dirt but as long as someone observes personal hygiene, there’s no odor or accumulated dirt. Just like your feet, pubic hair needs regular cleaning.
- Pubic lice are NOT brought about by unshaved pubic hair. This is not true as this STI is passed through sex or through sharing of clothing, including towels, with an infected person.
Does pubic hair have any benefits?
Well, some people report that some pubic hair helps to reduce friction that can cause skin irritation, especially during sex. It has also been noted that this can help to stop bacteria and other unwanted things from entering the body, especially those that can enter through the vagina and penis. Finally, it helps trap sweat and dirt that could enter the vagina or penis and affect the sensitive balance.
What’s the right amount of hair to have?
If you have chosen to have some pubic hair, you may be wondering whether there’s such a thing as too much or too little. Well, since the amount of pubic hair varies from one person to another, there’s not really an amount that can be considered the standard amount.
Remember that in some cases, health conditions such as Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOs) and aging can affect the amount of hair one has.
