Choosing the right birth control

Before you choose the birth control method that’s right for you, one of the things you need to consider is if and when you want to have a baby.

You can get some birth control methods at the chemist, while you might need to see a healthcare professional for others.

Some birth control methods are cheap and easy to get, some are a little bit more expensive, and some are free.

There are two ways to rate how well birth control methods work. You can say how good they are if people use them perfectly. Or you can look at what happens in real life – because people aren’t usually perfect!

If you don’t want to get pregnant – or don’t want your partner to get pregnant – you need to use birth control, also called contraception or family planning.
