Long distance relationships

Long-distance relationships mean that you aren’t living with your partner because you are in different places. This means you can’t see each other often.

If you live in Nairobi and your partner lives in Lagos, for example, you're in a long-distance relationship.

Relationships can go long distance for many reasons. It could be because your partner has found a new job in a different city or country or because you've started studying at a university far from home.

Today, long-distance relationships are becoming more common because of modern forms of communication. Emails, chats, video chats, and social media make it much easier for people to stay in touch. You can even have sex on the internet with your partner to keep the spark alive while you're apart.

Before you go long-distance, it might be a good idea to think about how your relationship will change. For one thing, there’ll be long stretches with no kissing, holding hands, or sex. You won't get to see and talk to each other in person for long periods of time.

If you can, try it for a while and see how it works out before you make a serious commitment.

Hello Evelyn, thank you for reaching out to us. We are sorry you are going through such a hard time. Communication is an important part of any relationship. Have an open and honest conversation with your partner. Explain how their actions are affecting you and the relationship. Try not to be confrontational because that would put them on the defensive and the resulting conversation would not be productive.  Be ready to listen to their fears and feelings and respond to them as well.

Hello Yasenta, thank you for sharing and you are very right! As long as both parties have a good understanding of their relationship, are working towards their goals and future plans, and have good communication, they can definitely work on it! Have a wonderful week ahead and stay safe!

My partner doesn't communicate with me like before and claiming to love me still.Hes distant but every morning he has to say hii. After that, you'll not hear anything from him until the next day. It breaks me

Hi Bunny,

I know the feeling so well, when a guy doesn't call or text you back, it can drive you crazy

First, it is important to have an open conversation with your partner about how this change has affected you. Second, have you also taken the initiative to communicate with him? Once two people agree to be in a relationship, you both share the responsibility to reach out to each other. It's totally acceptable to reach out to him to say hello. Set the pace and he may pick it up. Wishing you all the best.
